Two more days, the Chinese Valentine's Day will arrive.  Let's talk about love today.  No mattter which status you are in now: single, married, divorced, widow, or has a significant friend with you, people always talk about love. Why? Because love is necessary for people to live, just like water and air.  So what I am going to say in here is......................................

What makes people become a leader or leadership place?

Through observing different supervisors at my orgnization, here is my conclusion so far.

Of course, not all the leaders are the same.  Some are easy to get alone with; some would make you feel a pain in your butt.  However, they have something in common.

First, they are political savvy, but that doesn't mean they choosing a side. However, without very sensitive to the political situation, it's hard to being promoted to a leader position.

Second, most of them have a vision that oversee everything and direct the whole situation.

Third, they always have candies and rods at their hands to manage siuation and people.

Do you agree with me? What do you think?

Today on the trip back from training, I was chatting with my colleague on the car. She asked if I noticed that the people we trained today was a little different.  Originally, I didn't know what she meant.  She then explained if I notice that XXX is a transgender.  I said, "Oh! Really! I just felt sometimes her laughing was a little bit annoyed. I thought she was  a lesbian rather than a transgender."  She then said, "Well, actually she is not the rare one in our place.  If you would had been to the retreat today, you would have noticed a few people are transgendered. Our place is quite open in this aspect."

At that time, I was thinking if the same situation occurred in most asia countries, will transgenders be accepted as normal people in public? In this sense, I have to admire the openness and respect to others in the U.S. culture.  

今天很難得的想用中文寫寫日記!

這個週末在downtown附近有個免費的musical. 雖然剛上班不久, 不過心態還是學生一個 免費的當然要去, 而且又是broadway的westside story. 當然是二話不多說,鐵定要去. 

整個場地和公元的感覺讓我好像回到幾年前的台北大安公園,徐徐晚風, 熱鬧的人群加上舞台上精采的表演.感覺回到好幾年前跟著我妹一起去大安公園看表演那種感覺.

整場劇除了音樂很好聽之外,最讓我印象深刻的就是劇團的籌錢方式, 有別於台灣劇的劇團總是含蓄的說劇團缺錢或販售些當晚戲劇節目相關的紀念品, 美國劇團籌錢是直接但不會讓你覺得突兀; 他們用歌舞的方式表演出需要donation, 凡有捐贈者皆有獎品, 或大或小而已.  此外, 劇團團長還利用中場時間讓演員與觀眾互動進而籌錢. 真的是很聰明的marketing 方式.    或許台灣的劇團也可以用些creative方式來籌錢呢

Okay! Continue from yesterday's dairy! Rewrite it again!

This week is the offical week of being to New York State in one month. Not too long ago, I was still a student.  So here are what I think of being a professional for a month.

When you were a student:

• People around you are with similar ages; some are even younger. Sometimes you would feel that you were the oldest one, especially for doctoral student.
• You were chased by projects/ assignments, and you can choose what time you want to wake up.
• During weekdays nights, you usually ate dinners at home and at shcool and continue to work on your assignments, especially when midterm or final exam came. Weekends, usually hang out with friends.
• Although you don't have that much money to spent, you still hang out with friends to have lunch, dinner, or tea time.
• Although you don't earn a lot, IRS mostly gave money back to you each year. 
• You always had the privilege of enjoying discount rate, especially for the membership fees of professional organization and conference.

When you were a professional:

• People around you are older. You become of the the youngest one at your organization.
• You still chased by projects, but you still need to arrive office everyday at the same time.
• During weekdays nights, you usually stay at home watching TV or browsing online, especailly when you live alone. Weekends, usually wake up late, and go grocery shopping from store to store. Come back home, and browsing Internet again. Reasons: 1) people you know the most (= your colleagues) all have their families.
• Although you earn more than being a student, you hardly go out for meals. Reasons: 1) No friend to hang out with; 2) higher living expenses; 3) feel the need to save money for better live. 
• Although you have better income, IRS take more money from you each year. Don't expect they will give back to you.
• You hardly get any discounted rate so you always look for bargains.

So Conclusion is: I am still poor, even poorer than being a student, and need to make friends with common interest to hang out with.

It's been a month since I moved to New York captial area. During this month, both good things and bad things happened. It's a bumpy new start for me.  Good thing was my new job look exciting, and my new supervisor is nice.  It is a chanllenging job. Bad thing was that I was heartbroken, physically illness, and flat tire at highway.   I  really would like to thank my friends for supporting me through my most difficult time.

Now! I am ready to move forward, and looking for making new friends to hang out together.
